25-28 MAY 2023
INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
Bled will host the 2023 European Rowing Championships from 25 till 28 May 2023.
Venue: Bled Rowing Center, Zupančičeva ulica 9, SI-4260 Bled, Slovenia.
The Slovenian rowing tradition has been crowned with the successful organization of the European and World Championships and the World Cup competitions at Lake Bled. Bled hosted the World Championships in 1966, 1979, 1989 and lastly in 2011 and has hosted the World Cup in 2010 and 2015. Bled has successfully hosted 2017 World Rowing Masters Regatta.
The organization of top-level regattas has contributed to the expansion of the sports facilities, the new finish tower, the grandstands and the boathouse area have also been renovated before the 2011 World Championships.
Today the Bled Rowing Centre is one of the best in the region.
The lake is fair to all
The competitors start their race to the finish line with a stroke of their oars in the heart of a tourist venue, literally under the balconies of the luxurious hotels and coffeehouses, which is definitely very pleasant for the athletes and attractive for the viewers. The winds do not affect the rowers selectively, the lake doesn’t have large tributary streams and it also doesn’t have any currents. The water is still and very rarely choppy.

Diversity within short distances
Slovenia might be among the smaller countries in the world, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in its diversity. In fact, this green country (over 60% is forested) is the only European country where the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Karst and the Pannonian Plain meet. This results in immense diversity within short distances, which comes in handy, as it will take you only two hours to drive from the capital to the most remote corners of the country. Here, you’ll find a number of things to do, including active holidays and exploring nature, pampering at spa resorts, cultural spots and superb gastronomy and wines. What all these exciting experiences have in common is sustainability, which is reflected in care for the environment, tradition and taking care of the well-being of the locals and visitors alike.

SUSTAINABILITY
The Slovenian Rowing Federation and the Organizing Committee have taken numerous steps to ensure that the Championships are conducted in a sustainable manner. These measures will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and help to promote environmental awareness and responsibility among our participants and spectators. Among other things, we have committed ourselves to taking the following measures:
– We will use two electric vans for transportation in the vicinity of the lake;
– Representatives of the World Rowing Federation will be using electric vehicles;
– A third of all escort vehicles on the water will be electrically powered;
– Parking will not be allowed along the lakeshore;
– We will promote riding bicycles (special rental offers) and arriving at the venue on foot;
– The implementation of the Championships will involve the local population and service providers, local societies (folklore and firefighters at medal ceremonies) and volunteers from the local rowing club.
The Rowing Federation of Slovenia will also receive the Water from the Tap certificate, thus joining the group of environmentally conscious organizations that strive to protect the environment and human health.
